The Times They Are A-Changin’ for Libraries

Even with the passing of the levy measure this past May, Multnomah County Library still needed to cut its hours, services and staff. These changes went into effect July 1st.

(We suggest checking out the new hours to avoid confusion and frustration. You may know that all libraries will now be closed on Mondays. But did you know, on other days, they’ll be closing an hour earlier than you’re used to)

On May 29th, the County Commissioners and County Chair Cogen approved to explore the possibility of a Library District for a more stable source of funding. But, they want to know what the community thinks about this.

The public is invited to attend any of the community listening sessions held at various library locations throughout the month. All events start at 6pm and run approximately through 7:30pm.

Central; Monday, July 2
Gresham; Tuesday, July 10
N. Portland; Thursday, July 12
Hillsdale; Tuesday, July 17
Hollywood; Thursday, July 19

There then will be a public hearing at the Multnomah County board room on July 31, 10am, regarding this matter.

Will you be attending any of these community listening sessions to get your voice heard? (If you can’t make it, have your say by emailing libcomments@multco.us) There will also be an online survey sent out in July.

Please be part of these conversations and show your support!

[Also, on our Twitter, we posted that starting July 5th, Tigard Library will now be closed on Thursdays. No items will be due on Thursdays.]
