Manifold Greatness: The Creation and Afterlife of the King James Bible, Part I

On exhibit right now at the Collins Gallery is “Manifold Greatness: The Creation and Afterlife of the King James Bible” celebrating 400 years since its first printing!

I took some pictures last night and it gives the impression that it’s rather boring but, after taking a walk around, I found it rather interesting.

I loved seeing the beautiful craftsmanship of books published so many years ago. Everything about books then seemed well thought out from the cover, binding, and typography- at least, much more than now.

For a good chuckle, check out the Bible Printing Errors!

But the exhibit is not all books. Also on display is a bible quilt- wonderfully interpreted passages from the bible.

“Manifold Greatness” will run through August 26th with a traveling exhibition from July 12th to August 10th. There will be more things added for that and we’ll have more details in part II of this post. The opening reception is on Tuesday, July 17th at 6:30pm.

Here you will learn about the first printing presses in Oregon. And, you will see the first novel published in our state!

The Collins Gallery is open the same hours as Central. As you know, effective July 1st, hours will change so please visit Multnomah County Library’s website for all the information you need to know.
